‘Yaad aaye ke na aaye tumhari’ - While a ‘live’ rendering of this famous non-film song (in Hindi as well as Bengali) has been posted on this website, a recording of the same from the 78 rpm gramophone disc proved to be elusive for quite sometime and remained a major shortcoming of the ongoing open internet documentation project. This, music lovers will recollect, was one of the popular songs right upto the 1970s & 80s.
It did threaten to become an "endangered" song, thanks to the fact that it is not easily available (till recently, there was no audio file of the same available, for love or money, on the internet; a web search yielded just two references to the song !).
With the advent of the ubiquitous television and the technological revolution, gramophone records and radio are no longer the chief sources of song entertainment. Today, songs, including the vintage ones, need to be in the digital format today.
Even avowed Pankaj Mullick fans did not seem to have this song in their collection.
Finally, Mr Harish Raghuwanshi, veteran compiler of Mukesh Geet Kosh, helped overcome this situation by providing  a digital copy of the song drawn from the rich audio archives of his friend Sunil V Trivedi who is vintage music collector and a great fan of Pankaj Mullick. Thanks indeed

Dr Manohar Lal Kapur has been a great fan of movies and songs produced by New Theatres, Calcutta, and songs composed by Naushad Ali.
The vanity license plate of his car says simply, NAUSHAD – in keeping with his declaration of being ‘the number one fan' of the composer !
A Pankaj Mullick Fan
The NWFP – North Western Frontier Province, as it has been called for a long time, the area known for the Khyber Pass and its Pathan sapoots is naturally in the North-Western corner of the Indian subcontinent. So many famous filmi people have come from there, e.g. all the Khans and most of the Kapoors (or Kapurs). Everybody knows about the giant Prithviraj and his clan. Dr. Kapur was also born in that region.
As a child, Dr Kapur would often accompany his father, a serious movie buff, to cinema theatres and sometimes watch the same film several times. They were thus influence
d by the 1941 film ‘Doctor’, starring Pankaj Mullick and featuring a number of his hit songs, to such an extent that it became a foregone conclusion that the young Kapur would one day become a Doctor, which he did. He graduated from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi in 1963 and has been in US since 1967.

A more recent car acquisition by Dr. Kapur sports the licence plate: “P. MULICK”, small liberties having been taken with the spelling of the name to fit within the limit of 8 alpha-numeric characters.
You can hear Pankaj Mullick loud and clear on his car CD player.
A Pankaj Mullick Fan Indeed !

Raison d'etre :
Among the male singers of the classic film era, KL Saigal, Pankaj Mullick and KC Dey enjoy a position of considerable eminence.
However, for every popular song rendered by these great masters, there are several which are not known even to their ardent 'Fans' today since access to them is restricted.
Why ? Simply because they are not broadcast on radio or are no longer in active circulation.
The only possible means of keeping alive the memory of these great singers and preserve the treasures they have created, is to help create greater awareness and provide easy access to their work. The open internet documentation project hopes to do this.
The larger the number of music lovers who know about, listen to and recall, hum or sing a classic song, greater is the chance of its survival.  To help achieve these objectives, music lovers and collectors are requested to  send in their comments, suggestions, lyrics, translations, discography, audio files and other related resources.
